MHJ Studio - ART AS FASHION
The MHJ Studio brand, based in Serenbe ( Palmetto, Georgia), was launched in December of 2011 in Bethesda, Maryland.
After many years of technique classes and collecting elements, I began a new creative journey. My career as a commercial interior designer developed my skills for color, construction, proportion, composition, and materials which I now use in the creation of beautiful and unique one-of-a-kind pieces of personal ornament.
MHJ Studio now contains two separate collections. The Statement Necklace Collection of one-of-a-kind custom designed necklaces and the Bracelet Collection primarily in leather and silver.
Creating one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry, that are uniquely individual, has become a passion. I am constantly inspired by the materials I find to create a piece of jewelry that is distinct. The visuals I use include the juxtaposition of precious and common elements, high contrast materials, oxidized silver or matte gold, shapes other than spheres, long strokes of one color, wrapping with metal wire, leather or cord, and the closing of the necklace. In addition to being fascinated by materials, I am a colorist. Combining just the right tone of elements is an obsession. I love finding materials, shapes and colors to create ornament that has value because it is made of unusual or rare elements and is rich in beauty, style, and workmanship.
